Fabric!

my intent was to keep up with this again, but i needed a new flash card because the old one got scratched. anyways, here is some fabric i got from my mom recently. she's been stashing away fabric she would find at garage sales and rummage sales for years. she also hasn't sewed anything for years because her hands can't handle the work anymore. she gave me SO MUCH fabric, i can't keep it all straight! some of it is really old, i'm talking authentic feed sack fabric. most of it are small pieces, basically scraps, but i just ADORE the patterns!

aren't these little mushrooms to die for!? sorry for the poor quality, i took this at night, oh and i suck at taking pictures too. there is a ton more, but i haven't washed and pressed it all yet. i've never made a quilt before, but i must learn!

it's been a while

wow. when was the last time i posted? so much has happened since i last wrote. i got married to my college sweetheart, honeymooned in paris (see picture above) i moved to a great neigborhood, my apartment is about twice as large, my kittens are not so much kittens anymore, and i'm thinking about starting my own etsy shop! i've also been fascinated by the world of softies and plush. i've done a few so far and gave them as christmas presents, but i think that's what i would put in my shop...pictures to be posted at a later time.
so i'm going to start this blog thing again, it's a bore to look at right now. ryan is learning html so maybe he can help me : )

i heart this couch found at here at urbanoutfitters. i don't think the price is right, but i sure do like it. very sleek and totally 60's. the white would not work so well with rilo and kiley (my kittens) as they shed excessively most of the time. but with some pillows sewn by my husqvarna, it could turn into a relatively inexpensive essential for the living room that i do not have yet.

speaking of sewing machines, have you ever noticed that those who sell sewing machines are very set in their mind that their sewing machine is the only and the best. there are two places i go for fabric and notions and each sell different companies and machines. i hear at one place i can't do a certain stitch because i don't have a pfaff and then i hear that i can do anything because i have a husqvarna. it makes me laugh.

kitschy-en

i really like these recipe cards. i can't really cook, but i have a few recipes that i write down which are precious to me. right now, i write them on colored 3x5 cards, and it's really not doing it for me. i've recently asked my fiance to make some for me because his work is incredible...maybe i can convince him to buy me these though. there's only one in stock! find them at here at etsy.

my favorite recipe is my deviled eggs. i think i made it up, but i have a secret ingredient even my ma doesn't know about. i use to make her leave the room when i put it in. i found a great plate on ebay.

hay is for horses

i got these great bookends for my fiance this past weekend. his birthday is today, and he mentioned a while back that he wanted unique/odd bookends. while i was browsing at goodwill i found these and just had to have them...i mean get them for him. they were only $1.99, so what the hay, right? (pun intended). i just love the color and that old roman empire feel. pair them up with orange, and you have a fabulous display. now i just need a place to put them...

best dayton fabric store

if you live in dayton, ohio, and i know i do, there is a great little shop in centerville where you can get some awesome fabrics. It's called Sew-A-Lot and it's on main street, right off of route 48. they mostly have quilting fabric, but they have alot of Amy Butler's lines plus Joel Dewberry. the original owner's daughter also has a blog http://sewalotnews.blogspot.com/for Sew A-Lot news.

i just bought a package of fat quarters from Sew-A-Lot of Joel's designs.

i think i will make a change puse out of the chestnuts, they're precious! my mom is coming in from new jersey to be at my two bridal showers this weekend, so i think i will make it for her. so far, a change purse is about all i can do, but this is all about learning, right?

the first post, how darling!

about an hour ago while i was sitting at my desk at work, i decided to start my own blog. i can't imagine anything is going to come of this, but it's worth a try.

basically, as i surf the internet and come across different blogs, i find there may be alot dedicated to the stylish home, there is not a whole lot on being crafty in the home. if there is, please let me know!

i decided to make HOME AID because i just starting living in my first apartment and it needs some help. so as i go along in this journey, i'm hoping this can be a place for an exchanging of ideas or just a place to post some fun things i find/do along the way.

i don't have a lot of money, so i thrive off of garage sales, thrift stores, sales of any kind, and my own ideas. i might splurge from time to time on a nice piece of furniture, but i'm getting married in september -- funds are low. moreover, i received my first sewing machine a few months ago as a graduation present, so i'm teaching myself to sew. if you didn't know, there is a serious lack of sewing blogs. there are a few, but i don't want to read about grandma's sewing (although vintage patterns can be quite amazing), i want real craft mafia type of stuff!

so welcome to HOME AID. i'd like to post about housewares, sewing, and since my fiance is a graphic designer, anything that has to do with indie design.

i think this is going to be fun. . .
